DNA deep-dive: ReBOTL, what is it?

These days we’re fortunate to wear clothing and lace-up footwear that’s less harmful to the environment — often eco-friendly, sometimes genuinely sustainable.

Today’s topic is ReBOTL, Timberland’s eco-technology made from lightweight, durable and breathable recycled plastic bottles. Want to learn more? Read on.

What is ReBOTL?

Timberland processes used PET bottles to produce the ReBOTL material — so in each style marked ReBOTL you’ll find between six and ten plastic bottles that once sat on supermarket shelves. Since 2009 Timberland has reused over 300 million plastic bottles; that scale makes a real difference in diverting waste from landfill and the sea.

Why it matters

When a part of Timberland footwear is labelled ReBOTL, at least 50% of that component is made from recycled PET. In fact, since 2019, 90% of Timberland shoes have included at least one ReBOTL textile element — a straightforward change that scales across their ranges. That’s sustainable thinking turned into tangible impact.

ReBOTL doesn’t mean compromise: the recycled fibres are engineered to retain breathability, durability and the clean finish Timberland is known for. It’s a subtle material innovation that elevates the product while reducing environmental impact — a small but meaningful way to make your next pair of boots or trainers both stylish and more responsible.
