What's the difference between the Dr. Martens classic 1460 boot and the similar-looking Pascal Virginia boot?

The difference lies mostly in the leather uppers. The classic Dr. Martens 1460 8-eye boots are crafted from a thicker, smooth leather that gives them more structure, while the Pascal is made from softer, more malleable Virginia leather with a more textured hand. That softer leather breaks in quicker and moulds to the foot sooner, whereas Smooth maintains its shape and presence for longer. In practical terms, Smooth will show creases and scuffs more prominently as it ages—rewarding you with character—while Virginia keeps a lived-in, slightly more casual look from day one.

Pascal boots don’t have the taped ankle detail seen on 1460s. The Pascal range also comes with mono laces that match the upper—see the red colourway below—whereas classic 1460s are supplied with either black laces or Dr. Martens' signature yellow. Small finishings like welt stitching visibility and the stiffness of the collar also set them apart, so the Pascal reads softer and sleeker while the 1460 reads bold and iconic.
