Timberland proves it is not the size that counts
This month, Timberland celebrates a six-inch icon: the Yellow Boot.
More than 45 years after it first arrived, the Timberland 6 Inch Boot still feels instantly recognisable. It has moved from workwear staple to streetwear favourite without losing the practical details that made it popular in the first place.

From work boot to everyday icon
Originally made as a waterproof nubuck boot, the Timberland icon was built to cope with harsh, wet winters in New Hampshire. The Yellow Boot was not created as a fashion statement first. Its appeal came from the fact that it was useful, comfortable and hard-wearing.
That practical story is part of the reason it lasted. The boot is made from 39 pieces and goes through 80 separate stages of construction, giving it the substance people expect from a pair of Timberlands.
Why the Yellow Boot travelled so far
Comfort and durability helped the boot move well beyond the job site. As the all-American look grew in popularity, the Yellow Boot sat naturally alongside denim, sweats, work jackets and relaxed casual fits.
The 90s also pushed Timberland into a different kind of spotlight. Hip-hop artists wore the boots with loose laces and baggy denim, and that connection helped turn the silhouette into a cultural marker as much as a practical boot.

The details that keep it recognisable
The design has remained close to the original 1973 release. The soft waterproof nubuck, signature yellow tone, bolt-shaped metal eyelets, two-tone laces and padded leather collar all help keep the boot familiar season after season.
So maybe it is the mix of craftsmanship, durability, style and heritage that keeps the Timberland Yellow Boot at the front of fashion. It is a boot that still looks at home on the street, in the city and in bad weather.
