How to style the Dr. Martens Adrian Loafer – Jeans Edition

Why the Adrian Loafer works

Go on, say it — you didn't think loafers would make a comeback. Funny enough, we did — and, of course, we told you so. But in the current climate it's vital that styling is done properly, so we're walking you through a selection of shots from our latest TOWER editorial.

This is how to wear Dr. Martens Adrian Loafer, the baggy jeans edition.

The Adrian is inherently versatile: pared-back enough to read refined, sturdy enough to take on the rougher edges of everyday wear. It’s that balance — clean silhouette with purposeful construction — that makes it an ideal counterpoint to the relaxed, exaggerated volume of baggy jeans. You get polish without pretence.

Styling breakdown

Simply put, not everyone can rock a Canadian tuxedo — but those who can do it brilliantly. Here’s some inspiration from TOWER’s in-house stylist, who dresses better than just about anyone we know.

Choose Your Fighter

First, decide on your Adrian Loafers. We chose the beige pair because it simply made sense. How often do you spot beige loafers on the streets? Rarely — and we love to stand out. Pick a colour: this will be your base tone.

Which Trousers are Best?

Next, onto the trousers — we opted for a loud, embroidered pair with plenty of character to complement a blank canvas underfoot. When going baggy, make sure they don't drag on the ground — dragging damages denim; if that's a risk, get them tailored professionally. Loud trousers give you the licence to keep the rest of the look more considered.

Keep it Mean!

Third, choose the top half. We live by this rule — if the top is big, trim the bottom; if the bottom is big, keep the top neat. Since the jeans are baggy, we made the jumper fitted and sit at the waist; over that, we added a sashiko-style jacket that nods to the Japanese mending technique for a tonal, eye-catching finish.

As if by magic, that's the fit.

Small finishing decisions make the difference. Go sockless or choose a low-profile sock when you want the shoe to read uninterrupted, or pick a patterned sock to echo an embroidered detail in the trousers. Keep the hem clean — a subtle cuff or a deliberate stack looks purposeful; fraying and puddling do not.

Styling is as much about maintenance as it is about looks: give your Adrians a quick polish, protect the suede or leather with the right spray, and consider heel taps if you’re doing a lot of city walking. With those small steps, your loafers will keep their crisp silhouette and age with character — exactly what you want when pairing them with statement denim.

It couldn't be simpler — and yes, we offer this styling service for free. Styling has always been this simple at TOWER; you just have to seek it out, whether via our Instagram or by posing against the best backdrops the city has to offer.
