London Collections: Men: Astrid Andersen

Proving that lace, kimonos and pink aren’t just for women, Astrid Andersen sent out her models in a collection that was beautiful yet unashamedly masculine for her SS15 show as part of London Collections: Men.

Who: Danish born designer Astrid Andersen is known for her high-end approach to casual basics. Having honed her skills at companies including Nike she launched her eponymous label after graduating from The Royal College of Art back in 2010.

Where: British Fashion Council Show Space at Victoria House, Bloomsbury.

Key trends: If you men thought backpacks were more functional than fashionable, it’s time to think again. Astrid Andersen championed the humble bag alongside her sumo-inspired sportswear edit for SS15. Think number detailing, strong colours and kimonos in place of the more stereotypical bomber jackets. Navy, orange, deep pink and charcoal reigned supreme while tracksuits and velvet tops also appeared.

Make them work for you: Don’t be scared by this show, Andersen’s collection is much more wearable than you think. First of all, introduce splashes of colour into your wardrobe through a patterned T-shirt. Trainers are key but keep them plain to ensure all attention is on your main outfit. Complete your look with a classic backpack in black or dare to be different and experiment with something patterned.
