What to do This Bank Holiday Weekend

August Bank holiday may be characterised by Notting Hill Carnival but don’t be duped into thinking that’s the only thing taking place this weekend. Far from it. Instead, London comes alive with even more events and shenanigans than usual. Whether you’ll be spending time with your little ones or are after a wild night out, there is more than enough to suit all tastes. Here is our round-up of the top three.

For Families
Follow in the footsteps of Prince George this weekend with a trip to the Natural History Museum’s Sensational Butterflies exhibit. Offering little ones the chance to see both caterpillars and butterflies, this inspiring exhibition charts and explains all of the stages of their life cycles in simple, child-friendly terms. Held on the Museum’s east lawn, tips are also available to help you and your family create a butterfly-friendly haven in your own garden.
Find out more: Natural History Museum, Cromwell Road, London SW7 5BD. The exhibition runs until Sunday 14th September 2014.

For Party Starters
Get into the carnival spirit with Tom Conran’s gastropub the Cow. Perfect for those who don’t want the party to stop, The Cow will be turning their classic 1970s NSM Prestige Jukebox into a Champion Reggae Sound System thanks to the help of iconic music store and label, Rough Trade. Gaz Mayall from Gaz’s Rockin’ Blues Sound System and Dan Donovan of Big Audio Dynamite will also be on hand to ensure revellers have the best choice of music this side of the Caribbean.
Find out more: The Cow, 89 Westbourne Park Rd, London W2 5QH, Sunday 24th and Monday 25th August 2014. Free entry until 8pm.

For Sun Worshippers
With Saturday marking the end of the Camden Beach, now is the time to don your sunglasses and grab your bucket and spade for one final hurrah. Held in the grounds of north London’s iconic Roundhouse, this slide or urban paradise features 150 tonnes of fresh sand, pop-up fish restaurant, ping pong tables and tasty food and drinks. And as it’s free to get in, it seems a much better option than jetting all the way to the likes of Thailand or Indonesia.
Find out more: Camden Beach, Roundhouse, Chalk Farm Road, London, NW1 8EH. This runs until Saturday 23rd August 2014.
